This 33" necklace features our Edinburgh Key. This key was cast by U.S. artisans exclusively for ExVoto Vintage from the original antique key.
Ex Voto designer, Elizabeth Adams, acquired the original key while visiting an antique shop in Edinburgh, Scotland. She became fast friends with the shop owner, when a mutual affinity for antique keys was discovered. He opened up a secret stash of antique keys to her and allowed her to purchase one (just one) of his antique Edinburgh keys. He explained to her that the old town of Edinburgh had it's own lock and key set decades ago, and therefore, their antique keys are completely unique to the rest of the world. The maze design within the keys are unique to each lock and key set. Realizing what a gift she had been given in being able to purchase one of these rare keys, Elizabeth asked the shop owner to remove the keys of which he was especially fond. Elizabeth then found the key she liked best, and to her delight, the shop owner approved her to purchase it from him.
Our Edinburgh key is cast in solid brass and is 2.25" in length. The key is strung on a 33" gold-plated chain with our signature toggle (which is also a design based on an antique key) and shield interlink.
Plated in premium 18K gold and coated in our Forever Finish, which is resistant to tarnishing with proper care, allows for extended wear.
Our gold plating is a special formula with a matte luster for a look of vintage patina, as opposed to a high-shine surface. Each piece of ExVoto is plated in the same gold plating formula so that they can be worn together, however the depth of the patina may vary slightly between chain styles.
The ExVoto Vintage collection is made in the USA.
Each ExVoto piece comes with our velvet drawstring dust bag for travel.
A portion of all ExVoto Vintage sales goes to The Cure Starts Now Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research.
A Testament of Gratitude
"In 2009, I created ExVoto, which means a testament of gratitude, as a form of creative therapy after my youngest daughter passed away from a brain tumor. Today, as from the beginning, a portion of each ExVoto sale goes to The Cure Starts Now Foundation for pediatric brain cancer research.
Uniting powerful stories from the past and present, ExVoto specializes in timeless jewelry to encourage conversation, gratitude and inspire a creative spirit."
