What is Block Printing?
Block printing is the process of printing patterns by means of engraved wooden blocks. The process begins with the artist carving patterns on wooden blocks, covering those blocks with dye, and then ‘stamping’ the carved pattern into the fabric. Block Printing is the earliest and simplest technique of textile printing.
Block printing is a centuries-old tradition that originated in China as early as 220AD and was used widely throughout East Asia. It’s recent emergence onto the fashion scene has us smiling!
