Fashion inspiration is found everywhere.

Have you ever approached styling your outfits based off of art? Discovering inspiration through art is a great way to problem solve color palettes and textures when putting together an outfit. We hope you find inspiration from some of our favorite artists: Craig Green, Ali Stayer, Carrie Davis, and Cecily Lowe.

“The convergence of art and fashion is symbiotic. Everything that exists and surrounds us is a product of the society we live in. Who we are, what we see, and what we experience is interconnected and interrelated… The art we wear and live with is the art we become. Art—fashion and otherwise—reflects who we are and who we aspire to be.”

- Georges Berges for Observer

Art and fashion inform, influence, and inspire one another.

A few of the designers we carry come from artistic backgrounds rather than formal fashion studies. These designers are inspired by the art they create and even incorporate their art into their pieces.

We found that landscape artist Ali Stayer and designer Emerson Fry’s color palettes compliment each other! We reached out to Ali to hear about how her art influences her style: "My pantings focus on mostly coastal and southern landscapes I’m drawn to the colors of the beach and the countryside. The way my style reflects my art is in the colors I use. I am drawn to earth tones and neutrals.” - Ali Stayer

Emerson Fry studied fine arts before she began her fashion journey. You can see her artful eye not only in her gorgeous hand-blocked printed fabrics, but also in her graphics that she draws herself.

Carrie Davis’s use of clean, fluid lines is seen as well in Seema Kahai’s use of clean structures and line detailing within her garments.

We reached out to Carrie to hear about where she finds her inspiration for her art and how her art influences her wardrobe: “I studied Japanese for a year in college, and loved it so much that I took Chinese after that. My parents thought I was crazy! I loved everything about Asian culture - the simplicity, elegance, and intentionality behind everything. I loved how they married form with function, never sacrificing beauty. My goal is for people to describe my work as classy with a side of whimsy. That’s the aesthetic I aim for as I approach styling my closet and curating our family home. I enjoy working with color, but I primarily keep a neutral palette for the most part. I love blacks, creams, browns, and blushes, with lots of raw textiles and plenty of texture. And then I add one “wow” feature, which is usually a great piece of jewelry or a fun pair of shoes. Overall I like keeping things simple, elegant, and elevated…but with a twist!”

Seema Kahai is a successful interior designer in the U.S.A., and her love for textiles and draping is evident in her collection, with intricate designs, embroidery and great attention to finishing detail.

One of our most vivid and colorful brands that we carry is Devotion Twins. This same incredible use of bright colors can be found in Nashville artist Craig Green’s figures.

Within Devotion Twins garments you can see the influence of Greek civilization and Greek symbols depicted in the all natural fabrics, embroideries and hand made details of her pieces. Clean lines, minimal structures and geometric patterns are what you notice throughout the collection.

Inspired by color & light, Cecily Lowe’s abstract paintings are intuitive, focusing on layering paint. We see that same intricate layering within the patterns of the pieces in Omika’s collection.

Stephanie, a classically trained illustrator and Omika’s co-founder, hand-paints each pattern, creating specialty pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind.
