Hygge the Celebration of togetherness
Pronounced, /Hooga/, this Scandinavian concept has been called “the art of cozy.” Hygge is about enjoying the simple things in life with family and friends. Hygge is taking pleasure in soothing things. Creating a home filled with hygge means creating spaces and moments that evoke security and comfort.  We often hear visitors to our showrooms comment that our spaces feel warm, comfortable, peaceful and inviting.  This is such a compliment to us because it means we met our aim of creating a space with all of these hygge elements!
Hygge naturally fits well with the fall and winter seasons. These seasons are filled with cozy things: fireplace, candles, hot tea, blankets and books. What does hygge look like the spring and summer? Maybe it’s a casual stroll or bike ride with a friend. Maybe it’s a picnic or a simple, relaxed dinner on the patio with soft cloth napkins and candles with your friends or family. It may be as easy as a spontaneous glass of rosè on the porch with a friend. Hygge is not simply about being “cozy” but mostly it’s about the security you feel when you are cozy. Hygge is therefore also about kinship. We feel most secure when we are with those we feel a connection and kinship with. Kinship, connection, togetherness, are all valued at ExVoto.
Hygge is created when we disconnect from the electronics and spend time with each other.
Hygge moments are often about spontaneous hospitality therefore keeping your home prepped for company with clean linens, soaps, candles and simple snacks ready to spread and share is key to being able to create a life full of hygge moments.
