The Love Lock Bridge in Paris was iconic. The Pont des Arts bridge is a pedestrian bridge in the City Of Love once famous for its thousands of padlocks placed there by couples who followed the tradition of locking to the bridge fencing and throwing the key into the River Seine. My first two visits to Paris were before the locks were removed. The bridge stability was compromised by all of the locks, and in 2015 a section of the bridge fencing collapsed. (That’s the weight of love!)
I have long loved a lock and key. Our patented toggle, found on many ExVoto jewelry pieces, was designed by me in 2010 and inspired by the head of an antique key.
Now, ExVoto launches a new collection of antique lock and key sets inspired by the Love Lock Bridge.
Most of the locks are circa late 1800s- early 1900s.
These locks make creative gifts and unique objet d’ art for your home.
ENJOY!
Many cities around the world have similar traditions to the Love Lock Bridge in Paris. Pictured above is a photo taken by Elizabeth while in Tucson, AZ.
